What to Expect During a Dental Sedation Appointment

At Facer Hales Parker Dentistry in Ladera Ranch, CA, we understand that dental anxiety can be a barrier for many patients when it comes to receiving necessary care. To ensure patient comfort and a stress-free experience, we offer sedation dentistry, providing a relaxed environment during treatments. If you’re scheduled for a sedation appointment with Dr. Luke Facer or Dr. Lincoln Parker, here’s what you can expect throughout the process.

Before your procedure, your dentist will walk you through the sedation options available to you. Depending on the complexity of the procedure and your personal comfort level, you may be offered oral sedation, IV sedation, or nitrous oxide (commonly known as “laughing gas”). Each option is designed to ease anxiety and provide a deep sense of relaxation while allowing you to remain conscious and responsive.

Oral sedation involves taking a prescribed medication before your appointment to help calm your nerves. With IV sedation, the sedative is administered through a vein, providing quicker and deeper relaxation. Nitrous oxide is inhaled through a mask, offering a mild sedative effect that wears off quickly after the procedure.

Once the sedation takes effect, you will feel deeply relaxed, with the procedure seeming to pass by quickly. This is particularly helpful for more involved treatments like dental implants, oral surgeries, or root canal therapy. Sedation helps reduce stress, manage discomfort, and allows for longer procedures to be completed in fewer visits.

After the procedure, your recovery will be carefully monitored by our team. For oral or IV sedation, it’s important to arrange for a ride home, as the effects may linger for a few hours. At Facer Hales Parker Dentistry, we prioritize your safety and comfort, ensuring that sedation dentistry provides you with a smooth and positive experience while receiving the care you need.
