What Is a Common Dental Emergency Causing Tooth Pain?
-
Chipped front teeth.
-
Periodontal abscess.
-
Endodontic abscess.
Chipped Front Teeth
A chipped front tooth can vary in degrees of dental emergency. Sometimes the tooth can chip or fracture, exposing the nerve and causing tooth pain. Other times it can chip in a way that esthetically can be very challenging.
These situations can be resolved with composite bonded restorations or single visit dental crowns or porcelain veneers utilizing the Cerec CAD/CAM technology, which we explain on our same day crown page. All this can be done at our office serving the people of Mission Viejo, Rancho Santa Margarita, and the surrounding communities.
Periodontal Abscess
A periodontal abscess can form from something as simple as a popcorn kernel getting stuck in the gums or from a chronic condition that flares up. These can cause extreme tooth pain and need immediate attention to remove the substance that is causing the problem.
A chronic abscess may also need immediate attention to remove the source of the infection.
Endodontic Abscess
If a tooth has an infection stemming from the nerve or canal area, it may wake you up with tooth pain or be extremely sensitive to cold or hot temperature changes. The only way to resolve this issue is to access the canal of the tooth and clean out the infection. This type of abscess can be debilitating.
